The Scoundrel, which goes by the name Lyndon, is a deceptive, bow yielding Follower in Diablo 3. The Scoundrel’s main strengths come from deception and his ability to fight from afar. He also carries unique equipment, that aid his abilities with wit and luck. The Scoundrel is a unique Follower, and unlike other characters found in previous Diablo games.
Before we get into how to create the best Diablo 3 Scoundrel builds, we have to first look at the key features of the Scoundrel. They include:
- Ranged killing- the Scoundrel is proficient in the use of ranged weapons such as bows, crossbows, etc. This allows him to attack enemies from afar without taking additional damage.
- Disabling shots- because the Scoundrel relies heavily on deception, he is able to use special shots that cripple, disable and blind the enemy. This enables him to get away from danger or slow the enemy.
- Attack boosts- this key feature helps to make his attacks and his ally’s attacks more powerful or efficient.
Best Equipment for Diablo 3 Scoundrel Builds
Similar to the Templar, the Scoundrel is even more limited to what they can use, as far as equipment goes. The Scoundrel is allotted the following equipment slots:
- Weapons- Ranged- to include bows and crossbows
- Armor- Jewelry- to include amulets and rings
- Armor- Follower special- to include Scoundrel tokens
In order to build the best D3 Scoundrel, you will need to outfit him with a good bow or crossbow, preferably with a high level requirement. Find a good ring and amulet that increases attack damage or provides added life or regeneration.
Less is known about Scoundrel tokens. These tokens will help aid your Follower and possibly your allies as well. The known Scoundrel tokens are dice, glass blade, loaded dice, crystal edge, clasp, sand pouch, bone dice, diamond razor, brooch and dust satchel. The brooch and dust satchel have a level 55 and level 58 requirement, respectively. These will be the best tokens to have, although they will be hard to come by.
Best Skills for Diablo 3 Scoundrel
The best skills for the Diablo 3 Scoundrel remain unknown but we can speculate based on information provided. Once your Scoundrel reaches level 10, it has the ability to choose 2 skills. The Scoundrel will have access to another pair of skills for each 5th level increase all the way to level 25. This is different than the Templar skill tree, since Templar gain access to skills starting at level 5. Keep this in mind when building the best Diablo 3 follower. Below are the skills acquired in levels 10, 15, 20 and 25 for the Scoundrel.
Level 10 gives you the option of two skills, Crippling Shot and Poison Bolts. Crippling shot is a ranged attack that decreases the speed of the target by 70% for 3 seconds. Poison Bolts is also a ranged attack, but deals 50% weapon damage as Poison damage over a 3 second period.
Level 15 gives you two more options to choose from, Dirty Fighting and Vanish. Dirty fighting, as funny as it sounds, blinds enemies in front of the follower for 9-11 seconds. Any hit will break this blinding effect. Vanish is an equally deceptive skill that allows the Scoundrel to vanish in a cloud of smoke upon injury, reappearing after 5 seconds. While the Scoundrel is vanished, he will heal himself for a total of 2030 life.
Level 20 brings two ranged attacks, the Multishot and Powered Shot. The Multishot simply shoots 3 bolts at a time. The Powered Shot is a high powered range attack that deals 250% weapon damage as Arcane damage. The impact causes an additional explosion in a 15 yard radius around the target, knocking back surrounding enemies with a 50% chance to stun them for 5 seconds.
Level 25 allows you to choose between two skills called Anatomy and Hysteria. Anatomy increases precision by 10% for the Scoundrel and those allied with him. Hysteria works by increasing attack of your character and the Scoundrel by 10% for 3 seconds whenever you or the Scoundrel strike a critical hit.
So between these 8 skills, what are the best D3 Scoundrel skills to use and why? I have to say, currently, many of these Scoundrel skills seem pretty lame but out of all of the skills, Multishot, Powered Shot and Hysteria seem to be the best skills to use. Choose between either Multishot or Powershot, don’t use them together. The reason these skills work well is because of the low to no cool down time and the increased damage and effects they bring.
The Best Diablo 3 Scoundrel Build Summary
Building the best D3 Scoundrel is not as tough as it seems. Equip him with the best possible bow or crossbow, amulet, ring and Scoundrel token and it will be very strong. Use a combination of skills MultiShot or Powered Shot and Hysteria or Anatomy for the most effective and versatile Scoundrel.
I recommend pairing the Scoundrel with character classes such as the Barbarian or the Wizard, as it pairs nicely with either or to make better, more well rounded fighting and defending experience.
