Many of you may remember the Black Mushroom from Diablo 1. The Black Mushroom in Diablo 1 was part of a quest for witch Adria. At the end of the original quest, Adria informs the Hero that she does not need the Black Mushroom and for the hero to keep it. Upon eating the Black Mushroom, the Hero gains a boost in the four primary stats, which thereby becomes the reward for the quest.
It seems as if the Black Mushroom has made a return to Diablo 3. The intention is not yet clear, as we are only in the beta phase, but many players are commenting about finding the Black Mushroom outside of Adria’s hut during Act 1. As of right now, the Diablo 3 Black Mushroom cannot be sold, traded, used or given to any NPC.
There are currently two possibilities about what this reappearing, Diablo 3 Black Mushroom may present;
1. The Diablo 3 Black Mushroom may simply be a nostalgic piece meant to entertain former Diablo 1 players. By adding in old items from a previous series, Blizzard in a sense, creates a better sequel by incorporating familiar things to former players.
2. The Diablo 3 Black Mushroom may be part of a “mini quest” that has been blocked from the current beta version of the game. Currently the Black Mushroom found in Diablo 3, beta version, does not do much of anything, but this does not mean this is the case when the game is actually released.
Unfortunately, we do not currently know what the Diablo 3 Black Mushroom does or what the intentions are for this piece. What we do know is that this item was part of a quest in Diablo 1 and that it is certainly possible that it will be part of a “mini quest” in Diablo 3. Hopefully this piece will interplay into the game somehow or another and it will add an interesting spin, on an otherwise lackluster Act 1 in the beta release of Diablo 3.
